Boys, I haven’t met you yet but I would like to dedicate this to you.

You have great parents, my very good friends, you see.

Continue to be good as I know you already are and as they are to me.

I pray that you will enjoy your childhood and that you will learn with nature.

Start your numbers with the moon then count the stars, they’re many.

Identify the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Have you seen them?

Smell the fresh-cut grass, the flowers, and the mist. How are they?

Touch the earth: is it sticky wet like mud or coarse like the sand?

Feel the water in the bath tub, in the beach, in the pool. Is it warm or cold?

Is it as comfortable as your mother’s womb?

Taste the milk: it’s as sweet as your father’s love for you.

Hear the crickets? I hope you do!

Look at the world around you. Explore the amazing place you’re in.

I pray that you will enjoy your adulthood and that you continue to learn with nature.

You may work in stocks. Or be a doctor or architect.

You may be a teacher or an engineer or a lawyer.

Whatever you do, do so with all your heart.

And keep in mind what your loving parents told you

And what you have learned in your youth.

I pray that you will live life to the fullest;

That your needs will be provided;

That you will work for your needs and wants;

That you will love your parents and your friends;

That you will take care of the environment;

And that you will, above all, respect.

Respect another human

And respect yourself.

You two have just been borne to this earth and have a very long way to go.

I pray for good health and strength

And courage and joy

And love to be with you always.
